Six Million

Six Million is the name I gave to a high school art project I’m doing. Six million is a project that deals with a number (quantity) that is unconceivable to any of us.

At first, my intention was to see for once, the quantity in my own eyes and not only imagine it. During my journey to Poland, this subject wouldn’t leave my mind. It bothered me that I can’t really understand or imagine this number. So I tried to clarify the number to myself by taking six stones and imagining that each one is a million. At some point I started drawing circles in the journal we were given. I imagined that each circle symbolizes one person. Each circle is similar but also unique in shape, size, or the number of times I circled the tip of the pencil and so on and so forth… similar, but unique, just like people. Then I said to myself, "my goal is to draw six million circles".

I came home, and started thinking about it. I understood that if I really want to do such a thing it would take me years. And that maybe, only with the help of all the people I know, and the people they know, it can be done.

Also, I understood that nobody can see six million individual items at once (only if the items are microscopic). Then I thought that maybe none of us can perceive this number, and if we could, it might drive us crazy.

Your part is to help me collect the circles and to reach six million. It should take about 10-15 minutes of your time.

Maybe with the help of a large number of people (I would need about 6000 participants) we will be able to get a grasp on this number.

שישה מליון הוא פרוייקט שאני עושה במסגרת התיכון במקצוע אומנות. שישה מליון הוא פרוייקט שמדבר על המספר 6000000 עצמו. המספר הזה, הכמות הזאת שלא נקלטת לאף אחד מאיתנו.

בהתחלה הכוונה שלי הייתה לראות פעם אחת את המספר הזה בעיניים ולא רק לדמיין אותו. במשך המסע שלי לפולין, מאוד העסיק אותי העניין הזה והפריע לי שאני לא מצליחה באמת להבין או לדמיין את הכמות שהמספר מייצג. אז ניסיתי להמחיש לעצמי: לקחתי שישה אבנים וניסיתי לדמיין שכל אחת היא מליון, וכו'. ובאיזה שהוא שלב, ביומן מסע שקיבלנו התחלתי לצייד עיגולים. דמיינתי שכל עיגול מייצג מישהו אחד. כל עיגול הוא עיגול אך כל אחד מהם קצת שונה כמו אצל בני האדם, אם זה בצורה, בגודל, או במספר הסיבובים שסובבתי עם חוד העיפרון. ואז אמרתי- המטרה שלי היא לצייר שישה מליון עיגולים.

חזרתי הביתה, ישבתי וחשבתי והבנתי שאם אני רוצה לעשות כזה דבר, זה יקח לי שנים. ואולי רק בעזרת כל האנשים שאני מכירה, וכל האנשים שהם מכירים אצליח. הבנתי שגם לראות שישה מליון פריטים שונים בבת אחת אף אחד לא יכול (אלא אם כן זה מקרוסקופי). ואז חשבתי שאולי בעצם אף אחד מאתנו לא יכול להבין, או להכיל את המספר הזה? שאולי אם היינו מבינים, היינו משתגעים.

החלק שלכם הוא לעזור לי לאסוף את העיגולים האלה, כדי להגיע ל-6 מיליון. זה דבר שיקח לכל אחד מכם בסביבות ה-10-15 דקות מזמנו.

אולי בעזרת שיתוף פעולה של מספר רב של אנשים (אני אצטרך בסביבות ה6000 אנשים), נצליח לתפוס את המספר הזה.

Guidlines

1. Draw on a letter size (8.5 in X 11 in) or A4 paper.

2. One paper needs to fit at least 1000 circles. (5-6 mm (~1/4") or smaller circles will easily fit 1000 on a single page.)

3. You can draw the circles in any pattern that you would like (the order in which the circles are arranged on the page)

4.You can use any kind of writing tools or paint (pen, pencil, marker, paintbrush and so on..)

5. The circles need to be drawn by hand

6.You can photograph or scan the completed page and upload it to your computer and send it to my e-mail: macaroni.roni@gmail.com

7.To the email you send, add the number of circles you did.

8.Most important- open your mind, and be creative.

2. בדף אחד לצייר לפחות 1000 עיגולים. (עיגולים בקוטר 5 מ"מ או פחות יאפשרו ליצור 1000 עיגולים לדף בקלות)

3. הדוגמא (כיצד מסודרים העיגולים על הדף) יכולה להיות כפי שאתם בוחרים.

4. אפשר להשתמש באיזה כלי כתיבה\צבע שרוצים. (עיפרון, עט, תוש, מכחול וכו'.)

5. העיגולים צריכים להיות מצויירים ביד.

6. אפשר לצלם או לסרוק את הדף ולעלות למחשב, ושלוח לאימל שלי-macaroni.roni@gmail.com

7. נא לציין את כמות העיגולים שציירתם בגוף המייל.

8. הכי חשוב- פתחו את הראש ותיהיו יצירתיים.
